Dragonwilds equipment progression is easier to understand as a region-and-material route than as an unsupported “best weapon” chart. The current version includes more regions and weapon types than many 2025 lists. Compare the Power Level shown in game, the requirements for your next station and the enemy you are facing before chasing a single named item.

Early materials and the first regions

Jagex’s 1.0 retrospective says the original Brynmoor and Ghornfell release had gear up to Iron tier. A beginner should upgrade beyond starting stone equipment while following the opening objectives. The particular weapon to carry depends on the activity: a bow is useful for hunting and pulling a target from a distance, while melee and Magic solve different combat situations. This is practical loadout advice, not a numeric damage ranking.

Fellhollow and later crafting

The Fellhollow update added a Tier 5 material progression with Steel armour, Green Dragonhide and Splitbark. Dowdun Reach later raised the skill cap and extended the world. Umbral Sands introduced another equipment step, including Adamant, Red Dragonhide and Infinity Robes in Jagex’s 1.0 retrospective, plus upgrade materials from the Nightmare Crucible.

Full-release equipment

The 1.0 notes list Rune armour and weapons, Black Dragonhide pieces, Ancestral gear and a new Wand weapon type. Scorned Wilderness and Kuldra are endgame content, but the notes do not provide a universal order in which every player must acquire every piece. Check individual recipe requirements in your current build.

Do not confuse two Whips

Jagex specifically changed the Abyssal Whip plan. The Abysmal Whip is the Power Level 4 interim item without the final special attack; the masterwork Abyssal Whip is Power Level 7, unlocked by a recipe found in Umbral Sands. A guide that treats the old Bloodblight drop as the finished PL7 weapon is outdated. Consult the official rework explanation before spending rare materials.

This page stops at a verified progression overview. It does not present exact crafting quantities, DPS figures or S-to-D ranks without reproducible current-build tests.

Upgrade decisions by milestone

Stage Officially documented additions What to check in your own world
Opening Brynmoor and Ghornfell Gear through Iron in the original release Whether your current tools, armour and food handle ordinary enemies before the next quest.
Fellhollow Steel-tier equipment, Green Dragonhide and Splitbark The stations and materials shown by your current recipes.
Umbral Sands Adamant, Red Dragonhide, Infinity Robes and Nightmare Crucible upgrades Whether an upgrade to an existing weapon is more useful than changing weapon type.
Scorned Wilderness / 1.0 Rune, Black Dragonhide, Ancestral equipment and Wands The specific requirement for the piece you want; do not assume every set drops from the same activity.

This table is a version-and-region index, not a promise of exact drop locations. Jagex’s full 1.0 notes list the new Rune items and some resource tool requirements: for example, Runite and Luminite Ore need an Adamant Pickaxe or better, while Magic Wood needs a Rune Logging Axe or better. That makes tool progression part of gear progression. Before travelling for a material, check both its region and the harvesting tool, then leave inventory room for the return trip.
